TESTOSTERONE TESTING: WHAT TO EXPECT

Testosterone Testing in Palm Beach County: What to Expect

Symptoms and a single result do not establish testosterone deficiency. Evaluation combines medical history, appropriate morning testing, repeat measurements when needed, and a discussion of the cause.

When to consider testosterone testing

Persistent changes in sexual desire, energy or strength can be a reason to speak with a clinician. They do not establish low testosterone on their own. Sleep problems, medicines, thyroid disease, anemia, mood conditions and other health factors can produce similar symptoms.

A primary-care clinician can be an appropriate starting point. Further evaluation or referral depends on the findings. A decision not to prescribe TRT does not, by itself, indicate poor care or lack of expertise.

Testing is not routinely recommended for every asymptomatic man simply to track aging. A symptom questionnaire can support a conversation, but it cannot establish testosterone deficiency or eligibility for treatment.

Why a normal-range result needs context

A result near the bottom of a laboratory range is not automatically a deficiency that requires treatment. The clinician considers symptoms, the assay, repeat measurements and potential contributors. Free testosterone can be useful in selected situations, including altered SHBG or borderline total testosterone.

The Endocrine Society guideline calls for compatible symptoms and consistently low testosterone, confirmed on separate morning tests. Lifestyle measures and treatment of underlying conditions may be meaningful parts of care rather than something to dismiss.

How evaluation works at NovaGenix

1. Discuss the concern

Contact the team with a description of symptoms, relevant history, medicines and existing laboratory results. Ask about appointment availability and visit costs. An initial conversation does not guarantee a prescription or replace the medical assessment.

2. Arrange appropriate testing

The clinician decides which tests are needed. Testosterone should be repeated when required for diagnosis. Additional testing may help investigate the cause or assess treatment risks; a broad panel is not a substitute for interpreting results.

NovaGenix's $125 initial male hormone panel includes physician lab review or consultation. All labs, including follow-up testing, are billed separately from the TRT program. Patients may supply their own results for review or use the clinic's physician account with Labcorp for affordable lab rates.

3. Review the findings

Medical Director Timothy Mackey, D.O., reviews the clinical information to determine appropriate next steps. The outcome may be further testing, attention to another condition, lifestyle treatment, specialist evaluation or TRT when indicated.

See testosterone testing information and common TRT questions before the visit.

If TRT is being considered

Discuss benefits, limitations, blood-pressure and hematocrit changes, prostate assessment when appropriate, and ongoing monitoring. External testosterone can suppress sperm production. hCG or other medicines are not automatic add-ons or guaranteed fertility protection; fertility goals should be addressed before treatment.

Medication delivery, follow-up arrangements and costs depend on the individual plan. Confirm those details before enrollment rather than assuming every service is included.

Request a hormone lab panel. Current NovaGenix patients can request follow-up labs, and new patients can request baseline labs before an evaluation.

Male Hormone Lab Panel: CBC, comprehensive metabolic panel, total and free testosterone, sensitive estradiol, TSH and PSA. Dr. Mackey may add LH, FSH, SHBG or other tests when clinically indicated.

Women's Hormone Lab Panel: CBC, comprehensive metabolic panel, total and free testosterone, estradiol, TSH and progesterone. Dr. Mackey may add FSH, IGF-1, cortisol or other tests when clinically indicated.

Standard hormone lab panels are $125 per panel, billed separately. If additional tests are requested, the price may increase; NovaGenix confirms your total before sending your lab requisition. You then schedule your blood draw with Labcorp at the date, time and location that work best for you.
