Oral testosterone is a prescription capsule, testosterone undecanoate, taken twice a day with food to treat low testosterone in men. NovaGenix prescribes Kyzatrex, an FDA-approved oral testosterone. Dr. Timothy W. Mackey reviews your symptoms, lab work and blood pressure before deciding whether it is appropriate for you.
Key points
- Prescription only. Over-the-counter "testosterone boosters" are not testosterone.
- Taken with meals, usually morning and evening.
- Blood pressure and lab monitoring are part of treatment.
- Oral testosterone can suppress sperm production, the same as other forms of TRT.
- Cost: $349 per month, all-inclusive of the medication and your care with Dr. Mackey. The male hormone panel is $125 and is billed separately, or recent labs from your own physician can be used.
Modern oral testosterone uses testosterone undecanoate, which is absorbed through the intestinal lymphatic system. That is different from older oral androgens such as methyltestosterone, which carry recognized liver risks. Like injections and creams, oral testosterone replaces testosterone rather than stimulating your body to make more. If keeping your own production matters to you, ask about enclomiphene or hCG.
NovaGenix prescribes Kyzatrex. Jatenzo and Tlando are other FDA-approved oral options that contain the same active ingredient.

None of these is best for every man. Dr. Mackey considers your routine, blood pressure, lab results and budget. See TRT cost and pricing.
Dr. Mackey may consider oral testosterone for a man with symptoms of low testosterone, low testosterone on laboratory testing, and a preference to avoid injections or creams. Whether oral testosterone is right for you is a clinical decision Dr. Mackey makes case by case, based on your symptoms, lab results, blood pressure and health history. It is generally not recommended with uncontrolled high blood pressure, and it is not a fertility-preserving option.

- Complete your bloodwork at any Labcorp. The required panel includes total and free testosterone, sensitive estradiol, hematocrit and PSA. Dr. Mackey adds other tests when he determines they are needed. Recent labs from your own physician can also be used.
- Review with Dr. Mackey at the Jupiter office, or by telehealth when he determines it is appropriate. Your blood pressure is part of that review.
- If Kyzatrex is prescribed, it is filled by a licensed pharmacy and can be shipped to eligible patients anywhere in the U.S.
- Follow-up. Testosterone, hematocrit and blood pressure are rechecked to see how you're responding. Follow-up labs are typically done every 6 to 12 months, or as needed. You can also request labs at any time.
Kyzatrex is a brand-name oral testosterone. Kyzatrex therapy at NovaGenix is $349 per month, all-inclusive of the medication and your care with Dr. Mackey. Costs are reviewed with you by Dr. Mackey and Andy, our clinic manager, before you begin. The male hormone panel is $125 and is billed separately, or recent labs from your own physician can be used. NovaGenix is a direct self-pay practice and does not bill health insurance. NovaGenix will work with a patient to create a superbill if requested.
Oral testosterone can raise blood pressure, so blood pressure is checked before and during treatment. Testosterone can also raise hematocrit (red blood cell levels), which is monitored with bloodwork. Report chest pain, shortness of breath, leg swelling or pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or other new symptoms promptly. Learn more about testosterone and blood pressure.

Do testosterone pills work as well as injections?
Prescription oral testosterone undecanoate, such as Kyzatrex, can raise testosterone in men with confirmed low testosterone, and it avoids needles. Response varies, and the best form depends on your routine, blood pressure and lab results. Dr. Mackey reviews which option fits you.
Can I take testosterone tablets daily?
Yes, when prescribed. Oral testosterone is taken every day, usually twice a day with meals, as directed by your prescriber.
How much does oral testosterone cost at NovaGenix?
Kyzatrex therapy at NovaGenix is $349 per month, all-inclusive of the medication and your care with Dr. Mackey. The male hormone panel is $125 and is billed separately, or recent labs from your own physician can be used.
Is oral testosterone the same as a testosterone booster?
No. Oral testosterone is a prescription medication. Over-the-counter testosterone boosters are supplements and are not testosterone replacement.
Does oral testosterone affect fertility?
It can. Like other forms of testosterone therapy, oral testosterone can suppress sperm production. If fertility matters to you, discuss enclomiphene or hCG with Dr. Mackey.
Can I switch from injections to oral testosterone?
Possibly. Dr. Mackey plans the switch and the lab timing. Do not convert an injection dose into capsules on your own.
Does NovaGenix offer oral testosterone by telehealth?
Yes, when Dr. Mackey determines it is clinically appropriate. Bloodwork can be done at Labcorp, and Kyzatrex can be shipped to eligible patients anywhere in the U.S.
